Additional Information

It is likely that the first son of John and Mary was named after George III, the reigning monarch, whose severe illness in late 1810 required his eldest son, George, to rule in his place as Prince Regent. Their next two sons, appear to have been named after John himself and Mary’s father Henry Lightfoot.

John and William were labourers. Henry was a brushmaker. Michael was a drayman. Thomas was a carter and then a tobacconist. Charles was a printer compositor.

Henry’s wife, Jane, died in 1848, within three years of their marriage.
