Theme: Eliezer and Rebekah - by faith they said ‘I will’
Reading Genesis 24: 34-48
Faith Over a few weeks we are looking at what true faith is. Last week the message was entitled ‘Faith is Foolishness’; we looked at Noah and his faith in obeying God’s command, even though what he did was foolish in the eyes of those around him. Next week we will consider the topic ‘Faith is Reasonable’, looking particularly at Abraham’s response to God’s command for him to sacrifice his only son Isaac. Today we are going to consider two people who are wonderful examples of true faith in action: Eliezer, Abraham’s steward, and Rebekah, who became Isaac’s wife.
• Extraordinary Eliezer Gen 24:1-9
did his duty faithfully
wanted God’s choice only
trusted in God completely
• Remarkable Rebekah Gen 24:50-58
responded to needs unselfishly
recognised God’s call immediately
followed God’s way unquestioningly
