Theme: Ever-Increasing Glory
Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:7-18
1. A Mind Unable to See
“Their minds became dull, for to the present day the same veil still remains when the Old Testament is read” (2 Cor 3:14 NIV).
Naturally speaking we cannot understand God or His ways. Even the Word of God is baffling and incomprehensible to those who do not know Him. Darkened in understanding (Eph 4:18) ; no-one who understands (Rom 3:11) .
2. A Heart Set at Liberty
“A veil covers their hearts, but whenever a person turns to the Lord the veil is taken away … where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor 3:15-17 NIV).
Only by turning to Christ can the veil be lifted, the darkness be turned to light. His Spirit comes to reveal Jesus to us and in us (Jn 16:14) . The light of His presence sets us free from all that binds us or restricts us (Jn 8:36) .
3. A Face Radiating Beauty
“We reflect the Lord’s glory, being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory” (2 Cor 3:18 NIV)
God’s purpose is to make us like Jesus (1 Jn 3:2) . Not a fading likeness, as a flower that blooms and then dies, but an ever-increasing likeness.
