William’s wife Ada and daughter Ada Elizabeth both died in the summer of 1881. William’s own date of death is unknown, and after 1881 no further references to him can be found until George Hamuel’s Marriage in 1897. On this marriage certificate William is not stated to be deceased. William ceased to run the newsagent at 166 Waterloo Road some time between 1881 and 1885, when another proprietor, Henry Guest, is listed in the Post Office Directory. Charles became a solicitor’s clerk, and also had a daughter named Albenia (see 1891, 1901 and 1911 census returns). His various addresses in London can be found in the electoral registers. Charles’ son, Ronald Charles Brown, died on active service in France during World War 1.
