This is the last Will and Testament
of me Mary Ann Goodwin widow of the late Mr John Goodwin of Datchet in the County of Bucks whereas my late father Michael Willis by a Codicil to his Will and which Codicil is dated the seventh of September one thousand eight hundred and fourteen gave devised and bequeathed his copyhold Estate called Mapledurwell Hatch and his small leasehold Estate held under Lord Bolton to me for and during such interest term and estate as he might have therein at the time of his decease independent of my then present or any future husband and to be at my own [???] and absolute disposal as if I were sole and unmarried Now I do hereby give devise and bequeath all that the said Estate called Mapledurwell Hatch and other the property be given devised and bequeathed to me by my said father as before mentioned unto my son Ralph Goodwin his heirs executors and administrators and assigns to and for his and their own use and benefit absolutely and as to all the rest residue and remainder of my property what nature or kind whatsoever or wheresoever I give devise and bequeath the same unto my said son Ralph Willis Goodwin to and for his own use and benefit absolutely and lastly I do hereby appoint the said Ralph Willis Goodwin to be the sole executor of this my Will dated this twentieth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty four – Mary Ann Goodwin – Signed sealed published and declared by the said Mary Ann Goodwin as and for her last Will and Testament who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses – Jane B Sturges Datchet Bucks – Mary Ann Sturges Datchet Bucks.
Whereas I Mary Ann Goodwin of Datchet in the County of Bucks Widow have made and duly executed my Last Will and Testament in writing bearing date the twentieth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty four Now I do hereby declare this present writing to be a Codocil to my said Will and I direct the same to be annexed thereto and taken as part thereof I do hereby give and bequeath unto my son John Willis Goodwin of Leicester and to my two daughters Sophia the wife of George Willis of Buxton in the County of Surrey and Juliana the wife of Charles Willis in the Thatched House Tavern James Street in the County of Middlesex the legacy or sum of fifty pounds each to be paid out of my personal estate as a slight memorial they being otherwise sufficiently provided for and I also give and bequeath unto my said two daughters all my wearing apparel watches trinkets and other articles of dress and ornaments of the person to be equally divided between them share and share alike should they deem the same worthy of their [???] and I do hereby ratify and confirm my said Will in every other respect except as aforesaid In witness thereof I the said Mary Ann Goodwin have to this Codocil set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of July one thousand eight hundred and fifty three – Mary Ann Goodwin – signed by the hand of the said Mary Ann Goodwin as and for a Codicil to her last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in her presence in the presence of each other and at her request have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses – A Willis of Windsor – E Bennett his servant.
In the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in the goods of Mary Ann Goodwin Widow deceased Appeared Personally Jane Binfield Sturges of Datchet in the County of Bucks Spinster and made Oath that she is one of the subscribed witnesses to the last Will and Testament with a Codicil thereto of the said Mary Ann Goodwin late of Datchet in the County of Buckingham Widow deceased the said Will being now hereunto annexed and bearing date the twentieth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty four and the deponent further made Oath that on the aforesaid day of the date thereof the said Testatrix only executed her said Will by signing her name Mary Ann Goodwin at the foot or one thereof in the presence of her the deponent and of Mary Ann Sturges the other subscribed witness thereto both of whom were then present at the same [???] and that thereupon she the deponent and the said Mary Ann Sturges in the presence of the said Testatrix and also of each other respectively subscribed their Names to the said Will as witnesses attesting such the true execution [???] by the said Testatrix – Jane B Sturges – On the third day of December 1857 the said Jane Binfield Sturges was duly sworn to the truth of the afore [???] affidavit in virtue of the annexed commission – Before me – Mary J Hall Commissioner.
Proved at London with a Codicil the 8th January 1858 before the worshipful [???] Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the Oath of Ralph Willis Goodwin the son the sole Executor to whom Admin was granted having been first sworn to administer.
