In the Name of God Amen

I Ann Harris of Egham in the County of Surry Spinster make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say first I give and devise unto my loving Sister Mary Cleare of Wickham in the County of Southampton Widow all That my Messuage or Tenement with the Buildings Gardens and Appurtenances thereto belonging situate at Staines in the County of Middlesex and now in the Occupation of James Stevens Callico Printer or his undertenants to hold to my said Sister and her Assigns during her natural Life and from and after her Decease I give and devise the same unto her two Daughters Mary and Elizabeth Cleare their Heirs and Assigns for ever I also give unto my said Sister the interest now due and which shall during her life become due a Mortgage for servicing four hundred pounds on a certain Estate at Wickham aforesaid dated on or about the twenty sixth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy one and after her decease I give the said principal Sum of four hundred pounds unto her said two Daughters Mary and Elizabeth their Executors Administrators and Assigns I also give and devise unto my Niece Elizabeth Bartholomew Spinster who now resides with me all that my Messuage Tenement or Inn known by the Name or Sign of the Red Lion situate and being in Egham aforesaid with the Buildings Land and Appurtenances thereto belonging To hold unto the said Elizabeth Bartholomew her Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject nevertheless to the payment of the Annuity hereinafter mentioned I also give and devise unto Thomas Johnston of Staines aforesaid Draper all that my Messuage or Tenement with the Buildings Land and Appurtenances thereunto situate in the Parish of Thorpe in the said County of Surry and commonly called or known by the Name of Thorpe Lee House To hold unto the said Thomas Johnston his Heirs and Assigns for ever I also give unto the five Children of the said Thomas Johnston one hundred pounds apiece nominal Stock in the four per Cent consolidated Annuities standing in my Name as by the Companys Books will appear with benefit or survivorship in case of the death of either or any of them I also give and bequeath unto my Nephew Francis Bartholomew of Rusham Place in the Parish of Egham ~~~~ two hundred pounds in the same Stock I also give unto John Johnson of Windsor Great Park in the County of Berks Keeper and Mary his wife one hundred pounds apiece in the same Stock I also give unto the said John Johnson two hundred pounds in the same Stock in Trust for his Two children John and Maria Ann that is to say one hundred pounds Stock to each Child I also give unto the four children of my late Nephew John Bartholomew deceased fifty pounds apiece in the same Stock to be laid out in their Education and Maintenance or otherwise as my Executors hereinafter named shall in their discretion think proper with Benefit of Survivorship in case of the death of any or either of them I also give unto Lavington Stanley of Repton in the County of Derby wife of Thomas Stanley an Annuity or yearly Sum of five pounds and five shillings clear of all deductions during her natural life to be paid her by my said Niece Elizabeth Bartholomew by quarterly payments the first of the said payments to commence from such of the usual quarterly days of payment in the year as shall next follow my decease And I charge the aforesaid ~~~ and premises herein before devised to the said Elizabeth Bartholomew with the payment thereof I also give unto Dawn Stanley Daughter of the said Lavington Stanley one hundred pounds of the same Stock I also give unto Elizabeth ~~~~~ of Egham aforesaid Widow and to her Grandson Henry John Asfield ten pound apiece and I direct all the aforesaid legacies to be paid within three Months after my decease and all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my real and personal Estate I give devise and bequeath unto my said Niece Elizabeth Bartholomew to hold to her her Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever And I constitute and appoint the said Elizabeth Bartholomew and Thomas Johnston Executors of my said Will and hereby revoking all former wills by me made I declare this my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I the said Ann Harris the Testatrix have to this my Last Will and Testament contained in two Sheets of paper set my Name at the Foot or Bottom of the first Sheet thereof and to this the last my hand and Seal the ninth Day of February in the twentieth year of the Reign of King George the Third and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty  Ann Harris  Signed sealed published and declared by the Testatrix Ann Harris as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and at her request and in the presence of each other have set our names as witnesses hereto  Rev Mackason  Joseph Guale  Thomas Burton

This Will was proved at London the tenth day of Jan’y in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four before the Worshipful Iain Fisher Doctor of Law Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Law Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by Oaths of Elizabeth Bartholomew Spinster the Niece of the deceased and Thomas Johnston the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattells and Credits of the said deceased was granted they having been first sworn duly to Administer.

Notes

Thomas Johnston, the second Executor, was husband to Ann’s niece Anne Johnston, daughter of Ann’s sister Elizabeth Bartholomew. Executrix Elizabeth Bartholomew, Francis Bartholomew, Mary Johnson, and the deceased John Bartholomew were also all children of Ann’s sister Elizabeth Bartholomew.
