† Sarah’s existence is revealed in her father David’s will. Elizabeth is not mentioned in David’s will, nor in those of her brothers Thomas and Henry. No record can be found of her marriage or her death. James and Henry followed in their father’s footsteps as surgeons. Henry’s will reveals that his wife Elizabeth’s first husband was Samuel Winter, a boat builder of Rotherhithe, who died in December 1793. Elizabeth’s maiden name was Wilkinson; interestingly Henry Irish was a witness of her marriage to Samuel Winter in October 1774.
