Additional Information

Frank Pullen was known as Alfred by his family. The name Alfred was used on Beatrice’s baptism record, and the middle name Alfred was used on Dorothy’s marriage certificate.

According to his army record Frank Pullen was hospitalized for severe gas poisoning in Sep 1918.

No birth registration has been found for Alfred Frank Pullen.

Frank and Elizabeth apparently separated sometime between 1920 and 1921. The 1919 and 1920 Electoral Registers record Elizabeth living at 1 Oldfield Road, along with an Alfred Pullen. Frank and Elizabeth’s son Alfred was too young in those years to appear on the electoral register, so it is assumed Alfred is actually Frank, using his preferred appellation. Frank Pullen continued living at 1 Oldfield Road at least up to 1939, but Elizabeth lived elsewhere. Living in the same household as Frank was a Florence Storr, who was employed either as housekeeper or cook. The 1921 census return shows two of Frank’s children living with him – Albert William and Beatrice. From 1934 to 1939 the electoral registers again show Albert William living with Frank and Florence Storr. From 1946 to 1953 Frank was living with his son Alfred and his wife Edith.

Elizabeth gave birth to Frank Henry Pullen (Harry) during their time of separation. In a personal communication one of Elizabeth’s nephews stated that Harry was not actually Frank Pullen’s issue, even though the birth certificate names him as the father.
