Additional Information

It seems likely that when Agnes became pregnant with Edward she was rejected by her family, and consequently had to give birth in the Brighton workhouse. Edward was, however, brought up by Agnes’ parents.

Agnes’ brother-in-law, William Carden, lived with her and Samuel in 1911, and then continued living with Agnes after Samuel died.

Agnes was extremely inaccurate when stating her age in various census returns

Agnes’ death registration was initiated by her niece, Ida Manderson. Ida was living with her husband at 82 Washington Street in 1933, and presumably they took Agnes to live with them just before she died.
