Additional Information There is no record of Richard completing either of his apprenticeships. After Richard’s death his wife Jane entered domestic service, and their daughter Jane was raised by her mother’s sister Harriet and her husband William Haswell Payne, living at 30 Dee Street, Poplar. This address was occupied by the family for at least 60 years. In 1901 Jane junior was living there, as was her mother’s fiancé William Brown (stated to be her uncle, but in actual fact her soon-to-be step-father). In 1911 Jane Brown, now a widow for the second time, and her brother William Orom were living there. In 1921 and in 1939 Jane junior was living there, with her husband William Pearce. William Pearce served in the army from Aug 1914 to Mar 1919. |
